When Montevideo ran out of water, data provided a lifeline

When a water crisis struck Uruguay last year, Montevideo snapped into action with a whole-of-government response powered, in large part, by Mayor Carolina Cosse's data committee. Data was, in fact, the thread that tied together a suite of city efforts that included everything from sharing real-time updates on water quality to microtargeting water-bottle delivery to people with medical conditions.
